Pilgrimage in India -Gurudwaras(गुरूद्वारे)

Manora Gurdwara, Manora, Karachi

Gurdwara Sahib is a Gurdwara in Manora in the city of Karachi in Sindh, Pakistan.

Manora may be a narrow strip of land. It may have a very small population. But yet it is as diverse as it could be. It is home to tiny Sikh; Hindu and Christian communities who still live there despite all the golden handshakes Musharraf govt. threw at them. And it has one worshiping place for each one of them. Nannuu as locals fondly call the caretaker of gurdwara is an active member of vibrant Manora community. A vital thread of pluralistic fabric. He and his family are taking care of the current gurdwara which was built recently to accommodate more people as compared to the old one. There is another temple cum gurdwara in Manora, claim to which is disputed and thus resulted in its sealing by the govt.
The Sikh population is dwindling in Karachi just like it does in Pakistan. Majority of them lived in Peshawar and adjacent areas since it was spared from communal riots of partition. Sindh, apart from Karachi was emptied of Sikhs as they migrated in numbers to East Punjab and Haryana. Around 2500 Sikhs live in Karachi now. There are quite a few gurdwaras but majority of them sealed due to ownership disputes between Hindus and Sikhs. Among others, only Gurdwara Sikh Sangat in Ranchore Lines is large enough to cater a decent size of all Sikh community.
