According to the Hindu calendar, the birth fastival of God Narsimha as Narsingh Jayanti is celebrated on the Chaturthi date of the Shukla Paksha of Vaishak month. According to legends as described in the Puranas, Lord Vishnu incarnated as Narsimha in order to protect the devotee Prahlad on this holy day. For this, the day is celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm across India in the form of Lord Narsingh Jayanti.
According to the fast story of Lord Narsingh Jayanti, in order to take revenge for the death of his brother, Rakshasraj Hiranyakashiyapu received a boon of being invincible by pleasing Lord Brahma and Shiva with hard penance. After receiving the boon, egoist Hiranyakashiyapu started torturing the people and started hurting them by this the people became very sad.
These days, Hiranyakashiyapus wife, Kayadhu gave birth to a son named as Prahalad. Even after being born in the monster family, Prahalad had a strong attachment with Sri Haris devotion from childhood. Hiranyakashiyapu made many unsuccessful attempts to change Prahlads mind from Bhagavad Bhagati, but he could not succeed. Once he tried to burn Prahlad in the fire with the help of her sister Holika, But due to Gods infinite grace on Prahalad, Hiranyakashiyapu felt helpless.
Eventually one day he tried to kill Prahlad with the sword, then Lord Narsingh appeared from the pillar and taking Hiranyakashiyapu on his thighs and tearing his chest with his nails and protect his devotee. According to the devotees, if someone performs a fast while worshiping Lord Shree Narsingh, then he gets rid of the sins of all the living beings and attains the Supreme Lords blessings.
