बिहू असम के राष्ट्रीय त्यौहार का नाम है असम भारत के सबसे खूबसूरत राज्यों में से एक है जो चाय बागानों, शक्तिशाली ब्रह्मपुत्र नदी और हरे भरे जंगलों के लिए जाना जाता है। इसके अलावा असम राज्य का बिहू पर्व राज्य के तीन अलग-अलग सांस्कृतिक त्योहारों की एकजुटता को दर्शाता है।
’बिहू’ शब्द की उत्पत्ति संक्रांति शब्द से हुई है जिसका अर्थ है 'विशु'। यह असम का मनमोहक पर्व है जो वहां के स्थानीय लोगों द्वारा भिन्न जाति, पंथ और विश्वासों के बावजूद एक साथ मनाया जाता है। एक वर्ष में असमिया लोग तीन अलग-अलग प्रकार के बिहू पर्व को मनाते है, जो अप्रैल महीने के मध्य में बोहाग बिहू, जनवरी के मध्य में माघ बिहू और अक्टूबर महीने के मध्य में काटी बिहू के रूप में मनाया जाता है।
बिहू या बोहाग बिहू असम के लोगों के लिए सबसे महत्वपूर्ण त्योहारों में से एक है। यह एक ऐसा पर्व है जो लोगों को एक स्वतंत्र और निर्जन तरीके से एक साथ लाने के लिए सभी धार्मिक और वर्ग बाधाओं को पार करता है। असमिया एक नहीं बल्कि तीन बिहू त्योहारों का निरीक्षण करते हैं।
बिहू शब्द डिमसा कचहरी भाषा से लिया गया है। जन जातीय दिमासा कचहरी प्राचीन काल से असम में ही रहती थी।
असम समग्र संस्कृति का राज्य होने के कारण पूरे वर्ष विभिन्न जनजातियों के त्योहारों की एक श्रृंखला को दर्शाता है। बिहू असम का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण त्यौहार है, जो सभी असमिया लोगों द्वारा जाति, पंथ, धर्म, आस्था और विश्वास में विभिन्ताओ के बावजूद हर्षोउल्लास के साथ मनाया जाता है। असम की लुभावनी पहाड़ियाँ और घाटियाँ साल में तीन बार बिहू की आवाज़ के साथ जीवंत हो उठती हैं।
बिहू त्यौहार विशेष रूप से धान की खेती के उत्सव का प्रतीक है। उदाहरण के लिए, रोंगाली बिहू बीज की बुवाई की शुरुआत का प्रतीक है, काटी बिहू बुवाई और रोपाई के पूरा होने का और अंत में माघ बिहू फसल की अवधि के आगमन का प्रतीक है। बोहाग बिहू, मध्य अप्रैल में मनाया जाता है, माघ बिहु, जनवरी के मध्य में मनाया जाता है, और काटी बिहू मध्य अक्टूबर में मनाया जाता है। तीनों क्रमशः वसंत, शिशिर और शरद ऋतु के मौसम के साथ जुड़े हुए हैं।
बिहू असम क्षेत्र के लोगों का सबसे बड़ा त्यौहार है। यह वास्तव में एक क्षेत्रीय पर्व है, जो असम क्षेत्र के लोगों में एकजुटता और एकता की भावना लाता है। यह साल में तीन बार आता है और मौसम में बदलाव को चिह्नित करता है।

Bohag Bihu is celebrated in mid-April, Magha Bihu is celebrated in mid-January, and Kati Bihu is celebrated in mid-October. All three are associated with spring, winter and autumn seasons respectively.
Bihu is the biggest festival of the people of Assam region. It is indeed a regional festival, which brings a sense of solidarity and unity among the people of Assam region. It comes three times a year and marks a change in weather.
