पूर्णिमा हर महीने मनाई जाती है, इसका उपवास इसके अतिरिक्त किया जाता है, फिर भी चैत्र पूर्णिमा का महत्व है। पुराणों में दर्शाया गया है कि इस दिन घर में खुशहाली और समृद्धि आती है। इसके अतिरिक्त एक कारण यह भी है कि हिंदू कैलेंडर के अनुसार, चैत्र वर्ष का प्रथम महीना होता है। चैत्र पूर्णिमा के साथ-साथ वैशाख मास, जो धार्मिक आक्षेपों के अनुसार उत्सवों की सबसे लंबी अवधि है। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि वैशाख का महत्व कार्तिक और माघ महीने की तरह ही है। इन महीनों में जल का प्रयोग महत्वपूर्ण है। इसके अलावा, इस दिन उज्जैन में श्रद्धालुओं में उत्साह और जोश देखने को बनता है।
