करवीर व्रत भगवान सूर्य और कनेर वृक्ष को समर्पित है - भारतीय पंचांग के अनुसार करवीर व्रत को काफी महत्वपूर्ण व्रतों में से एक माना जाता है। व्रत शुक्ल पक्ष के पहले दिन या ज्येष्ठ माह (मई - जून) के समय मनाया जाता है अर्थात उत्तर भारत के पारंपरिक कैलेंडर के अनुसार।
हिन्दू धर्म के ज्येष्ठ मास की शुक्ल प्रतिपदा करवीर व्रत का पालन किया जाता है। इस व्रत में सूर्य की आराधना का विधान है। पवित्र स्थान में जाकर कनेर वृक्ष का पूजन करें व् व्रत रखे तो संकट से छुटकारा मिलता है। यह व्रत स्त्रियों को तत्काल फल देने वाला है। पुराने समय में सावित्री, सत्यभामा और दमयंती आदि जैसी सती स्त्रियों ने इस व्रत को किया था।
हिन्दु धर्म में सूर्य पंच देवों में एक है। वह साक्षात देव माने जाते हैं। जिनकी अपार शक्ति, गति और ऊर्जा से संसार का हर प्राणी और वनस्पति जीवन शक्ति पाते हैं। वह काल के निर्धारक भी है। धार्मिक मान्यताओं में भी सूर्य को समस्त इच्छाओं और कामनाओं को पूरा करने वाला बताया गया है।
करवीर व्रत पौराणिक कथा -
'करवीर क्षेत्र माहात्म्य' तथा 'लक्ष्मी विजय' के अनुसार कौलासुर दैत्य को वरदान प्राप्त था कि वह स्त्री द्वारा ही मारा जा सकेगा, अतः विष्णु स्वयं महालक्ष्मी रूप में प्रकट हुए और सिंहारूढ़ होकर करवीर में ही उसको युद्ध में परास्त कर संहार कर दिया। मरने से पहले उसने देवी से वर याचना की कि उस क्षेत्र को उसका नाम मिले। देवी ने वर दे दिया और वहीं स्वयं भी वहीँ स्थित हो गईं, तब इसे 'करवीर क्षेत्र' कहा जाने लगा, जो वर्तमान में 'कोल्हापुर' हो गया है। माँ को कोलासुरा मर्दिनी के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। पद्मपुराण के अनुसार यह क्षेत्र 108 कल्प प्राचीन है एवं इसे महामातृका कहा गया है, क्योंकि यह आदिशक्ति का मुख्य स्थल है।
करवीर व्रत पूजा विधि
इस दिन सुबह स्नान कर किसी देवस्थान पर कनेर के पेड़ की पूजा की जाती है। कनेर के पौधे को पूरी तरह से जल से सिंचा जाता है। उस पर लाल कपड़ा चढ़ाया जाता है। इसके बाद गंध, फूल, धूप, दीप, प्रसाद, भोग सहित यथाशक्ति पूजा की जाती है। इसके साथ ही भगवान सूर्य की भी यथोपचार पूजा, आराधना की जाती है। एक वस्त्र पर सात तरह के अन्न और केले, नारंगी जैसे फल रखकर यह पौराणिक मंत्र बोलकर सभी पदार्थ किसी योग्य ब्राह्मण को दान कर दें -
करवीर विषावास नमस्ते भानुवल्लभ। मौलिमण्डन दुर्गादिदेवानां सततं प्रिय।।
पूरे दिन यथाशक्ति उपवास या एक समय आहार लेकर व्रत रखें। इस दिन पवित्र आचरण करें। आहार-विहार, वचन और कर्मों की अपवित्रता से दूर रहें।
धार्मिक दृष्टि से ऐसे व्रत के पालन से व्रती को घोर संकट और आपदा से मुक्ति मिलती है। साथ ही मानसिक और शारीरिक कष्ट दूर हो जाते हैं।
करवीर व्रत के दिन करें कनेर के वृक्ष की पूजा -
इस व्रत में कनेर के पेड़ की पूजा करने का विधान है। इस पूजा को नियम पूर्वक करना चाहिए। इसके लिए सबसे पहले वृक्ष के पास सफाई कर जल से शुद्ध करें। अब कनेर के वृक्ष के तने पर लाल मौलि बांधें और उसको जल अर्पित करते हुए लाल वस्त्र उढ़ायें। अब गंध, पुष्प, धूप, दीप एवं नैवेद्य अर्पित करें। किसी पात्र में सप्तधान्य अर्थात सात प्रकार के अनाज और फल आदि रखकर वृक्ष को अर्पित करें। पूजन के बाद दोनों हाथ जोड़कर इस मंत्र से वृक्ष की प्रार्थना करे- ‘आ कृष्णेन रजसा वर्तमानो निवेशयन्न्मृतं च्। हिरण्ययेन सविता रथेना देवो याति भुवनानि पश्यन्॥’ इसके बाद वृक्ष की प्रदक्षिणा करके प्रणाम करें।

Karveer Vrat Historical Story -
According to 'Karveer Kshetra Mahatmya' and 'Lakshmi Vijay', the Kaulasur monster had a boon that he could be killed by a woman, so Vishnu himself appeared in Mahalakshmi form and in a simmering manner, defeated him in Karvir and killed him in battle. Before dying, he pleaded with the goddess that the area be given his name. The goddess gave her a groom and got herself situated there itself, then it came to be known as 'Karveer Kshetra', which has now become 'Kolhapur'. The mother is also known as Kolasura Mardini. According to the Padmapuran, this region is 108 kalpa ancient and has been called Mahamatruka, as it is the main site of Adishakti.
Karveer Fast Worship Method -
On this day, in the morning, the Kaner tree is worshiped at a Devasthan. The Kaner plant is completely watered with water. Red cloth is offered on it. After this, as many Shakti pujas are performed, including gandha, flowers, incense, lamps, offerings, bhog. Along with this, worship of Lord Surya is also done. Worship of Kaner Tree on Karveer Vrat -
There is a law to worship the Kaner tree in this fast. This puja should be done by law. For this, first clean the tree and clean it with water. Now tie red mauli on the trunk of Kaner tree and offer red water while offering water to it. Now offer scent, flower, incense, lamp and naivedya. Put seven types of grains and fruits etc. in a vessel and offer it to the tree. After worshiping, with both hands folded, pray to the tree with this mantra - "O Krishnen Rajasa, the present one of the Investments". Hiranyayen Savita Ratheno Devo Yati Bhuvanani Pashyana॥ 'After this, prostrate the tree by prostrating it.
