ग्रेगोरियन कैलेंडर के अनुसार अप्रैल-मई का महीना व् हिन्दू पंचांग में 'वैशाख' के महीने में शुक्ल पक्ष के दौरान 11 वें दिन पड़ने वाली तिथि को मोहिनी एकादशी कहा जाता है। मोहिनी एकादशी सभी हिंदुओं द्वारा बड़े धूमधाम से मनाई जाती है क्योंकि मोहिनी एकादशी के दिन किया गया यह व्रत पिछले जन्म में किए गए पापों सहित एक व्यक्ति के वर्तमान के भी सभी पापों को धो देता है। भारतीय लोककथाओं के अनुसार, मोहिनी भगवान विष्णु के प्रच्छन्न रूप को समर्पित किया गया नाम है, क्योंकि भगवान एकादशी के दिन इस रूप में अवतरित हुए थे, इसलिए इस दिन को 'मोहिनी एकादशी' के रूप में मनाया जाता है। यह एकादशी उत्तरी भारत और आसपास के क्षेत्रों में 'वैशाख' के महीने में मनाई जाती है, लेकिन तमिल कैलेंडर के अनुसार, यह 'चिथिरई' के महीने में, बंगाली कैलेंडर के 'ज्येष्ठो' महीने में और मलयालम कैलेंडर में पड़ती है। हिंदू भक्त खुशहाली और सफल जीवन पाने के लिए तथा दिव्य आशीर्वाद लेने के लिए इस एकादशी के दिन व्रत का पालन करते हैं।

 

मोहिनी एकादशी व्रत महत्व

इस व्रत का पालन करने से व्यक्ति अपने सभी पापों और दु:खों से छुटकारा पाता है। यह शुक्ल पक्ष, वैशाख मास की एकादशी को मनाया जाता है। एक व्यक्ति इस व्रत के माध्यम से मोह के जाल से मुक्त हो सकता है। अत: दुःख में सभी को इस व्रत का पालन करना चाहिए। व्रत के दिन व्रत कथा अवश्य सुननी चाहिए।

 

मोहिनी एकादशी व्रत कथा

सरस्वती नदी के तट पर भद्रावती नाम का एक नगर था। यहाँ घृत नामक एक राजा रहता था। उसके राज्य में एक अमीर व्यापारी रहता था। वह एक सज्जन व्यक्ति था और भगवान विष्णु का परम भक्त था। उसके पांच बेटे थे। उसका बड़ा बेटा एक पापी था, जो शराब पीकर जुआ खेला करता था। उसके माता-पिता ने उसे कुछ पैसे देकर घर से निकाल दिया।

अपने माता-पिता से जो कुछ भी मिला वह जल्द ही समाप्त हो गया। जिसके बाद उन्होंने अपने जीवन यापन के लिए चोरी जैसे काम शुरू कर दिए। फिर एक बार वह चोरी करते हुए पकड़ा गया। अब उसे सजा के मुताबिक़ शहर से बाहर निकाल दिया गया। एक दिन, उसे कोई शिकार नहीं मिला। इसलिए भूखे-प्यासे लड़का मुनि के आश्रम में गया। उसने अपने दोनों हाथों को जोड़कर मुनि से उसे अपनी शरण में लेने का अनुरोध किया और उसे इस भयानक जीवन से मुक्ति पाने का उपाय पूछा।

उसकी प्राथर्ना को सुनकर, मुनि ने उन्हें वैशाख मास के शुक्ल पक्ष की एकादशी, व्रत का पालन करने को कहा और यह भी कहा कि, यह उसके जीवन के सभी पापों को दूर करेगा। तत्पश्चात, उसने मोहिनी एकादशी के व्रत का पालन किया और अपने पापों से मुक्त हो गया। अंत में, वह विष्णु लोक पहुंच गया।

 

मोहिनी एकादशी व्रत विधि

जो व्यक्ति इस व्रत का पालन करना चाहता है, उसे दशमी (एकादशी के एक दिन पहले) से इस व्रत के नियमों का पालन करना जरुरी है। उन्हें दशमी की रात कांसे के बर्तन में रात का भोजन नहीं करना चाहिए और, रात के भोजन के बाद कुछ भी नहीं खाना चाहिए। इस भोजन में, प्याज या मांस आदि बिलकुल नहीं होना चाहिए। सात्विक भोजन ही खायें। जौ, गेहूं और चना आदि खाने से बचें।

उपवास के लिए खुद को मानसिक रूप से तैयार करना बहुत जरुरी है, क्योंकि यह लंबी अवधि का समय है। साथ ही, इस व्रत का पालन करने वाले व्यक्ति को दशमी से ही फर्श पर सोना शुरू कर देना चाहिए। दशमी तिथि पर भी, किसी व्यक्ति को झूठ बोलने या किसी को चोट पहुंचाने से बचना चाहिए। दशमी से ही इस व्रत के नियमों का पालन करना चाहिए।

एकादशी के दिन व्रत रखने वाले व्यक्ति को सूर्योदय से पहले उठना चाहिए। और, उसे अपना नियमित काम पूरा करना चाहिए और शुद्ध पानी से स्नान करना चाहिए। स्नान के लिए नदी या झील के पानी का उपयोग करना शुभ माना जाता है। स्नान में कुश और तिल के पेस्ट इस्तेमाल करें। शास्त्रों के अनुसार ऐसा माना जाता है कि स्नान के लिए इन वस्तुओं का उपयोग करने से व्यक्ति पूजा प्रारम्भ करने से पूर्व शुद्ध हो जाता है।

स्नान करने के पश्चात साफ और अच्छे कपड़े पहनें और भगवान विष्णु और राम की पूजा करें। व्रत का संकल्प लेने के बाद व्रत शुरू कर सकते है। संकल्प भगवान की मूर्ति के सामने लेते है ।

एक कलश रखा जाता है और लाल रंग के कपड़े से ढंककर पूजा की जाती है। फिर भगवान की मूर्ति या तस्वीर को कलश पर रखा जाता है। इसके बाद अगरबत्ती, दीपक और फूल से भगवान की आरती की जाती है तथा अंत में व्रत कथा का पाठ किया जाता है।

Hindu devotees follow this Ekadashi to seek divine blessings to have a happy and successful life.

 

Importance of Mohini Ekadashi Fast

By observing this fast, a person gets rid of all his sins and sorrows. It is celebrated on the Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha, Vaishakh month. A person can be free from temptation. Therefore, everyone should observe this fast in grief. The fast story must be heard on the day of fasting.

 

Mohini Ekadashi Fast Story

There was a city named Bhadravati on the banks of river Saraswati. A king named Ghrita lived here. There was a rich businessman in his kingdom. He was a gentleman and an absolute devotee of Lord Vishnu. He had five sons. His elder son was a sinner, who used to drink alcohol and gamble. His parents paid him some money and drove him out of the house.

Everything he got from his parents soon came to an end. After which he started work like theft for his living. Then once he was caught stealing. Now he was thrown out of the city as per his sentence. One day, he finds no victim. So the hungry and thirsty boy went to the monk's ashram. He folded his two hands and requested the sage to take him to his shelter and asked him the solution to get rid of this terrible life.

Listening to his prayer, the sage asked him to observe the fast of Vaishaka month, the Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha and also said that, it would remove all the sins of his life. Subsequently, he followed the fast of Mohini Ekadashi and was freed from his sins. Finally, he reached Vishnu Loka.

 

Mohini Ekadashi Fasting Method

The person who wants to observe this fast, must follow the rules of this fast from Dashami (one day before Ekadashi). They should not have dinner in a bronze pot on Dashami night, and should not eat anything after dinner. In this food, onion or meat etc. should not be present. Eat only satvik food. Avoid eating barley, wheat and gram etc.

It is very important to prepare yourself mentally for fasting, as it is a long period of time. Also, the person observing this fast should start sleeping on the floor from Dashami itself. Even on Dashmi Tithi, a person should avoid lying or hurting anyone. The rules of this fast should be followed from Dashami itself.

A person observing fast on Ekadashi should wake up before sunrise. And, he should complete his regular work and take a bath with pure water. Using spiritual river or lake water for bathing is considered auspicious. Use kush and sesame paste in the bath. According to the scriptures, it is believed that by using these things for bathing, a person gets purified before starting the worship.

After bathing, wear clean and nice clothes and worship Lord Vishnu and Rama. Fasting can be started after taking the pledge. They take the resolution in front of the idol of God.

A kalash is kept and worshiped by covering it with red cloth. Then the idol or picture of God is placed on the urn. After this, Lord Aarti is done with incense sticks, lamps and flowers and finally the fasting story is recited.
