पूर्णिमा भारतीय शब्द है। प्रत्येक महीने में पूर्णिमा का दिन (तिथि ) होता है, और प्रत्येक महीने में दो चंद्र कालों (पक्ष) के बीच के विभाजन को चिह्नित करता है। शुक्ल ("उज्ज्वल") पखवाड़ा पहला पखवाड़ा है, और कृष्ण (“अंधकार”) पखवाड़े के बाद पखवाड़ा है।
समारोह
निम्नलिखित त्यौहार किसी वर्ष में पड़ने वाली विभिन्न पूर्णिमाओं पर होते हैं।
कार्तिक पूर्णिमा, कार्तिक की पूर्णिमा के दिन मनाया जाता है। इसे त्रिपुरा पूर्णिमा भी कहा जाता है।
श्रावण मास में पूर्णिमा का दिन श्रावण पूर्णिमा कहलाता है। इस दिन के कई अलग-अलग नाम हैं। हयग्रीव जयंती भी श्रावण पूर्णिमा को मनाई जाती है।
वट पूर्णिमा को ज्येष्ठ माह की पूर्णिमा के दिन मनाया जाता है। महिलाएं इस दिन बरगद (वट) के चारों ओर धागे बांधकर अपने पति की दीर्घायु के लिए प्रार्थना करती हैं। यह सत्यवान की पौराणिक पत्नी सावित्री का आदर प्रकट करता है जो अपने पति के जीवन के लिए मौत से भी टकरा गई थी। यह यम देव की पूजा के लिए उपयुक्त दिन है
गुरु पूर्णिमा, इस दिन भक्त अपने गुरु की पूर्णिमा (गुरु पूर्णिमा) के दिन पूजा करते हैं। यह महाभारत के प्रतिष्ठित लेखक के जन्मदिन के रूप में पतिष्ठित है और इस दिन को व्यास पूर्णिमा (संस्कृत व्यास) के रूप में भी जाना जाता है।
शरद पूर्णिमा या कोजागिरी पूर्णिमा पर शरद पूर्णिमा महोत्सव व् कई अनुष्ठान किये जाते है।
बुद्ध पूर्णिमा का दिन, गौतम बुद्ध के जन्म , प्रबोधन और निधन का दिन है ।
होली / फाल्गुन पूर्णिमा, हिंदू धर्म / बौद्ध धर्म / जैन धर्म में इस दिन वसंत त्यौहार व् फाल्गुन महीने में पूर्णिमा का दिन का आरम्भ होता है।
इस दिन दत्तात्रेय जयंती मार्गशीर्ष माह की पूर्णिमा के दिन मनाई जाती है
हनुमान जयंती को चंद्र माह चैत्र की पूर्णिमा को मनाया जाता है। हालाँकि, यह अलग-अलग राज्यों में अलग-अलग दिनों में मनाया जाता है। जबकि उड़ीसा इसे वैशाख संक्रांति के रूप में मनाता है, आंध्र प्रदेश वैशाख, शुक्ल पक्ष दशमी को मनाया जाता है, केरल इसे पिछले महीने मार्गशीर्ष अमावस्या को मनाता है जो मुला नक्षत्र के साथ आता है। श्री चंद्र देव, चंद्रमा को प्रसन्न करने के लिए चावल के दान के स्वरुप में चैत्र पूर्णिमा को चुना जाता है।
शाकंभरी पूर्णिमा को पौष माह की पूर्णिमा के दिन मनाया जाता है ।
भाद्रपद पूर्णिमा को उमा महेश्वर व्रत के साथ-साथ शकरा व्रत के लिए भी चुना जाता है जहां इंद्र की पूजा बच्चों और उनके उज्जवल भविष्य के लिए की जाती है।
Purnima is an Indian word. Each month has a full moon day (date), and marks the division between two lunar forts (paksha) in each month. Shukla ("bright") fortnight is the first fortnight, and Krishna is the fortnight after the inauspicious fortnight.

The following festivals take place on the full moon.
Kartik Purnima is celebrated on the full moon day of Kartik. It is also called Tripura Purnima.
The full moon day in the month of Shravan is called Shravan Purnima. This day has many different names. Hayagreeva Jayanti is also celebrated on Shravan Purnima.
Vat Purnima is celebrated on the full moon day of Jyestha month. The women tie threads around the banyan (vat) on this day to pray for their husband's longevity. It shows respect for Satyavan's legendary wife Savitri, who had fight to death for the life of her husband. It is a suitable day for the worship of Yama Dev.
Guru Purnima, on this day devotees worship their Guru on the full moon day (Guru Poornima). It is celebrated as the birthday of the eminent writer of Mahabharata and this day is also known as Vyas Purnima (Sanskrit Vyasa).
Sharad Purnima festival and many rituals are performed on Sharad Purnima or Kojagiri Purnima.
Buddha Purnima is the day of birth, enlightenment and demise of Gautama Buddha.
In Holi / Phalgun Purnima, Hinduism / Buddhism / Jainism, on this day, the spring festival and Purnima day begins in Phalgun month.
On this day, Dattatreya Jayanti is celebrated on the full moon day of Margashirsha month.
Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated on the full moon of the lunar month Chaitra. However, it is celebrated on different days in different states. While Orissa celebrates it as Vaishakh Sankranti, Andhra Pradesh celebrates Vaishakh, Shukla Paksha Dashami, Kerala celebrates it on the last month of Margashirsha Amavasya which coincides with Mula Nakshatra. Chaitra Purnima is chosen as a form of donation of rice to please the Moon.
Shakambhari Purnima is celebrated on the full moon day of Paush month.
Bhadrapada Poornima is also chosen for the Uma Maheshwar Vrat as well as Shakra fast where Indra is worshiped for children and their bright future.
