Kalashtami is dedicated to Lord Kalabhairava. Kalabhairav is the form of god Shiva. Kalashtami is observed on the Eighth day of Dark fortnight in every month. As per Purnimanth calenders Kala Bhairav Jayanti is observed on the kalashtami day in the month of Mingshira. According to Amavasyant calenders it falls in the month of Kartik. Pinda Daan and Pitru Tarpan rituals are also performed on monthly Kalastami Day.
