Ram Navami in the Year 2024 will be celebrated on Wednesday, 17th April 2024

=====================

The Festival of Ram Navami falls on the Navami of Chaitra Masa Shukla Paksha. On the day of Ramnavami, Chaitra Navratri also ends. According to Hinduism scriptures, Lord Sri Rama was born on this day, so devotees celebrate this auspicious date as Rama Navami. This festival is celebrated with devotion and dedication throughout India. It is believed that on this day, people bathe in the holy rivers and attain virtue.

Ram Navami Story :

King Dasaratha of Ayodhya had three wives named Kaushalya, Sumitra and Kaikeyi. But from none of the three did he receive a son, which the king needed to take care of his empire and inherit his throne. Even after many years of his marriage, the king did not become a father.

Then the great sage Vashistha advised him to perform the sacrificial Kamasthi Yagya, which resulted in a sacred ritual to get children. With the consent of King Dasharatha, the great sage Maharishi Rushya Shringa performed the ritual in the most elaborate manner. The king was given a bowl of payasam (preparation of milk and rice) and asked to distribute food to his wives.

The king gave his first wife Kausalya one and a half each and so on to his second and third wife. Both wives give half of their offerings to Sumitra. With this uneven distribution of sacred food, both Kausalya and Kaikeyi give birth to one son, while Sumitra gives birth to two children.

The day was one of the final celebrations in Ayodhya, in which not only the royal family, but also every resident, breathed a sigh of relief and thanked God for this miracle, knowing that the Lord himself was present among them in the form of Rama Were.

Celebration of Ram Navami :

Ayodhya, the holy birthplace of Lord Rama, is seen on the auspicious occasion of Rama Navami, a huge congregation of devotees coming to take a holy dip in the Saryu River. People pray wholeheartedly to get the blessings of Lord Rama. A much awaited event, Ayodhya is a two-day fair consisting of 'Rath Yatra', and a ceremonial procession that involves the deities of Rama, Brother Laxman, wife Sita and Mahavir Hanuman in chariots.

The most unique aspect of the Ram Navami festival is the Ram Navami procession. To witness the spectacle, four persons suitably stand in a different pose as Rama, Sita, Lakshmana and Hanuman and circumnavigate the city in a 'chariot' - a ritual for which devotees look forward every year.

In South India, the Rama Navami festival lasts for nine days, with many ceremonies and rituals. Since Ram and Sita were married on this day, the importance of this day increases further. The programs of kirtan, mantras and recitations give a very inspiring and educative voice through the Ramnavami festival.
