Sanjeev Krishan Thakur

Sanjeev Krishan Thakur

Sanjeev Krishan Thakur Ji
was born on 23rd December, 1984 to a Vaishnav Brahman family at  the sacred and renowned place of Paigaon in Vrijbhumi known as  Sant Nagaji’s place of   “Tapa” i.e. spiritual sadhna.  His respected father Shri Satyabhan is a teacher and mother Smt. Radha Deviji is a Krishna devotee and Param Bhakt.

Thakurji’s grand father Shri Ramjilal Sharma and grand mother Smt. Kiran Sharma both have been teachers.  They made sincere efforts to educate the entire family and inculcated in them moral and spiritual values i.e. “samskaras” in the ancient traditions, religious and moral framework of Vaishnavs.

At the age of 3 years, when the child Sanjeev Krishan began to stand on his head with legs upward (a yogic kriya called “Padamasan”} everyone around was shell-shocked and uttered in disbelief that the child must have been a Yogi in his previous incarnation / birth.  Also, Thakurji’s  great grand mother Smt. Parmali Devi was a devotee of Balaji and used to perform “arti” and sing glories (kirtan) of Balaji every day.  The child Sanjeev Krishan also used to be with her  during these religious “puja” or “kirtan”.  The result was that  Thakurji, as an infant, began to take such puja / archna studiously and  evolve into a spiritually-inclined personality.

  Education:

Thakurji did his schooling in Shergarh (Mathura).  He was very sharp in his studies and was one of the most brilliant students in the school.  His uncanny hold in Sanskrit, besides other subjects, astonished his teachers.  They prophesied that the boy would do proud to his family and village in whatever field he would enter and upward movement was pre-ordained.

  Knowledge of Scriptures:

At the age of 7 years, Thakurji used to read out Bhagwat, Ramayna, Gita, Shiv Purana etc. to his grand mother every day.  This repeated and regular narration of the texts of shastras got imprinted in his memory.  Child sanjeev never missed opportunities of attending religious sermons / kathas / programmes taking place  in the neightbourhood.  He stunned the people around by giving “quotes” / examples from Gita at such a tender age.

  Study in Vrindavan:

While carrying on his school studies and “inspiring” people to lead a righteous and pure life, Thakurji began to feel in his heart that his mission  in life was entirely different and his destination lay in “Adhyatam” i.e. spiritualism.  At the age of 9, one day, suddenly, he stunned every one by saying that he wanted to leave home  and study in a Guru’s Ashram.  The family was upset and refused to agree to such an idea.  However, after some time, considering his heartfelt and deep-rooted desire and inclination, the family gave their consent. Thakurji, thus, came over to Varindavan where learned Guru late Pandit Rajvanshi Dwivedy initiated him into the divine language of Sanskrit and taught him most lovingly like his own son.  Seeing Thakurji’s naughtiness and pranks, later, Panditji started calling him by the sweet names of Krishna and Thakurji.  His name, thus, metamorphosed from Sanjeev to Sanjeev Krishna Tahkurji.  Here in the Ashram, Thakurji did in-depth study of Bhagwat and Vedas etc and got Diksha (spiritual initiation) from Pandit Moolchand Shastri of Vallabh Sampradhyaya who was a family man and accepted him as his “shishya” i.e. disciple.

  Bhagwat Katha's:

At the tender age of 12 years, Thakurji graced “Vyaspeeth” (the pious seat occupied by a Guru for delivering sermons) by the blessings and consent of his Guru.  He offered the first flower (parvachan i.e. holy sermons) of Bhagwat Katha, at the lotus feet of Krishna, his object of reverence and devotion in Village Phalen in Vrijbhumi.  Thousands of people congregated at this village when they came to know that a young 12 years child with divine glow on his face was speaking on  Bhagwat in an extraordinary way with a rare style and expressions.  Even the scholars and renowned kathavachaks were stunned by the unique and other-worldly style of narration in a touching way by a little boy without referring to any texts or prepared notes.  Impressed and spell-bound, they all prophesied that this 12 years old boy would become a distinguished kathakar soon.

With the passage of time, when Thakurji was doing his 30th Bhagwat kata in 2007 at Shuktal – the Hindus’ pious and holy place where Bhagwat was first recited by Shukdev, son of Vedvyasji   to King Parikshat, the descendent of Pandavas  – Padamshree  129 years old late Pandit Kalyan Devji, the head of the shrine was so spellbound by Thakurji’s melodious and scholarly sermons on Bhagwat Purana that he gave him the title of “Shukdev”.

Till December 2008, Thakurji has accomplished 163 kathas all over the country including the main Dhams of Vrijbhumi like Varindavan, Govardhan, Radhakund, Barsana and holy places of  Chitrakut, Badrinath, Shuktal, Haridwar, Dwarka etc.
