Kundalini meditation is the part of Kundalini yoga with the purpose of uncovering the Kundalini energy that is present in the lower part of the spine. Awakening this energy cleanses your system and makes you completely aware of your body.
 

How to awaken Kundalini
Kundalini meditation is a time taking process and done in different ways. The different techniques are used with slight variations to awaken the Kundalini energy.
Below are the steps of Kundalini awakening:
•    Prepare your mind
It will take some time to get used to the meditation process if you are not a regular practitioner. To start over, you should find a calm place, dress in comfortable and loose clothes. You can also cover your head with a shawl. As the meditation process is slow and steady, you need to have some patience to go through it. Don’t give up and certainly, you will start enjoying the process.
•    Sit in a correct posture
Always sit straight and keep a pillow underneath. Cross your legs and close your eyes. It is very important to sit in a correct position because if the alignment of chakras takes place in a correct manner, it will allow the energy to rise in the proper way.
•    Begin the breathing process
Now start the breathing process by deep inhalation and exhalation. Now break the inhalations into four parts. Inhale for the first time, then a break, then inhale for the second time, then again a break and so on. While exhaling, follow the same procedure. This process will take 7-8 seconds to complete for the one round. Do the process for 3 minutes. Inhale deeply at the time of stopping the process. Take your palms in front of the chest and push them against each other for 15 seconds. Now relax and exhale. You can slowly increase the breathing time and as the time passes, you will start feeling your breath. Going further,  you will be able to control your breath's flow and it will lead to awakening the Kundalini.
•    Simple exercises
To involve yourself deeply in meditation, there are a set of exercises to help your mind to settle down. You can sit down and keep your back straight. Now bend your legs but don’t cross the thighs. Place your hands on the thighs and rotate the pelvis in both directions for 26 times each.
You can try a different exercise by sitting relaxed and keep your back erect. Move your head back and forth. Bend your head right, roll backward and bring it again to the same position. Then try again with bending the head on the left side and repeat the same process. Do it for two minutes to release the blocked energy from there.
•    Chant a mantra
At the time of breathing, chant a mantra. This will help you to concentrate and keep you away from random thoughts coming into your mind. There is a long list of mantas you can choose from and decide that which one will work for you.

Kundalini meditation is a popular form of meditation in India. It is an advanced practice that takes many years to achieve excellence in it. There are many benefits of Kundalini including physical, mental and sexual benefits.
•    Physical benefits
Kundalini meditation gives a healthy brain and body. There are many physical benefits of Kundalini like it helps in the removal of toxins from the body. Kundalini is done by using a set of breathing techniques by utilizing inhalations and exhalations. This increases the oxygen flow in the body resulting in cleansing the body and removes toxins.
Chemicals like serotonin, GABA, and melatonin are produced during the process of meditation that helps in decreasing depression, improving sleep and cause mood stability.
•    Mental benefits

Kundalini Dangers
When Kundalini is awakened, it brings enlightenment and gives perfect joy to the person. Once the energy from the base of the spine travels towards the brain, it shows some awakening symptoms. These awakening symptoms could be turned out to be dangerous without a Guru. The awakening symptoms include sudden muscle jerks and cramps. These muscular twitches are accompanied by a feeling of immense energy flowing through the body. Other symptoms include a sudden rise in body temperature. The practitioner can feel either very hot or very cold. There are many other awakening symptoms. There are times when the outburst of energy can have many negative impacts on the body. Kundalini is known as the most dangerous form of meditation so it should only be practiced under the guidance of a Guru.
