MEDITATION FOR FOCUS AND CONCENTRATION
Alertness and mindfulness are the positive results of implementing regular meditation. But the question is how can we utilize it to improve our focus and concentration ability? Let’s find out some of the important methods of meditation.
• If you aim to experience a peaceful mind, it is necessary to focus on your breath. It is better to initiate it in a calm and relaxed place. Meditation should be practiced in a place free of distracting sounds, people, and house pets. Do remember that sitting in the same place will help you boost your concentration skills. Morning time is best for practicing meditation.
• Your posture should be comfortable. Meditation works effectively if one does it in comfortable clothes otherwise it may mislead your focus if you wear tight or uncomfortable clothes. You will find hard to sit in a relaxed position.
• You can set a time limit of say 5 minutes. Now you may start it by counting one as you inhale and two as you exhale and likewise till the counting 10. Following this procedure will help you focus on your breath and provide you with a state of mindfulness. Once you become comfortable exercising this, stretch your time limit to 10 to 15 minutes and later to 30 minutes. You can use a timer to track your time instead of a wall clock.
• You can merge meditation with Pranayama practice. It supports to provide a peaceful and alert mind through the breathing practice of inhaling, holding and exhaling for a few minutes. It effectively works to improve concentration and memory power.
• You can incorporate it with Sudarshan Kriya, an uncommon breathing technique which aid you drive out your anger, fear, nervousness, stress, and depression, leaving you to mind relax and compose, increase stamina and level of your body’s energy.
• Yoga is one of the significant ways to improve focus. It is another form of meditation but it takes movements. Practicing yoga for about 15-20 minutes encourages the mental activities which help in strengthening the concentration power.
• Meditation benefits to provide a stress-free mind. Regular practice can encourage the functions of brain cells that generally get distressed due to stress, anxiety, fear, and depression.
• Meditation plays an important role to erase the undesired thoughts and past visions. It delivers newness and mental focus.
• Meditation helps to boost thinking capabilities. It provides precision and purity of thoughts. Through regular meditation, one can achieve control over his/her mind activities and reactions.
Do not let your thoughts to divert in negative directions. Keep aside all the distracting reflection. Your central focus should be to control your thoughts and not allowing your thoughts control you.
• To increase concentration level through meditation, you can perform it in a sitting position on a comfortable floor or ground, relax your hands lay on the thighs. This can be also be practiced lying on a cushion, chair or couch.
